James Blake Overgrown Video

James Blake‘s music is the most concentrated melancholy. I wonder what, besides making sad, sad music, brings this man joy. Honestly, I’m kidding, there is a playfulness to Jim’s music that balances out with the deep, heavy, sometimes burdensome quality of a song like “Overgrown.” One thing for certain, the production quality and the musicality to his work is top top level. In my opinion, the man has changed the game more than people might give him credit. His sound, his approach to soulfulness, the whole “post dubstep” thing, the hints of baroqueness (baroqueness?), it has all been very influential in the explosion of electronic infused music. Okay, I am not exactly sure what I am talking about BUT, I have thought for a while now that James Blake is important and has changed the landscape. His new album Overgrown dropped yesterday and is available now from iTunes as well as all formats.

Watch the haunting video for the title track directed by Nabil. Below that, the project’s second official video for “Voyeur.” The first official video was for the single “Retrograde” and can be seen here.

Continue on to watch the video for “Voyeur” off the Overgrown LP:

“On the new video for his single “Voyeur” James Blake delivers a crude Tron-style animation that takes the viewer into the grooves of a spinning vinyl record (1-800-Dinosaur) until the POV is flying through vinyl valleys and cities like an x-wing navigating the trenches of the Death Star. Dead simple concept, dead simple execution and deceptively simple in its brilliance” – Karas of Okayplayer
