Last week, Brooklyn-based producer Taylor McFerrin shared with us a track titled “Already There,” featuring Robert Glasper and Thundercat, from his long-awaited full-length album, Early Riser. The new album drops next week on June 3 on FlyLo’s Brainfeeder label, and is now available to stream in full, courtesy of NPR’s First Listen.
Early Riser is a creative amalgamation of beautiful electronic beatscapes and emotive melodies, straddling the ethereal and the experimental – oozing with vibes. Taylor also taps an enviable network of collaboratives including labelmates RYAT and Thundercat, his father Bobby McFerrin, Emily King and Nai Palm of Hiatus Kaiyote.
My personal favorite track, the first single from 3-4 years ago titled “Place In My Heart” with RYAT on vocals, makes a reappearance on Early Riser, and yet after all this time, it still sounds as if RYAT sings with fresh wounds and you can really feel that pain.
Stream the full album on NPR, along with some select tracks below. Pre-order Early Riser on iTunes.
