The legendary Tricky is again gracing the airwaves after what feels like quite some time, and NPR has made his entire False Idols LP available to stream on their “First Listen” page for a limited time only.
From top to bottom, False Idols, as Tricky’s latest oeuvre, exudes a mystical cinematic quality. His ear for production is finely tuned into the creative aspect of his music. One may expect variations on potentially familiar trip-hop themes, but the album is really an enchanting trip into a new world that can only be imagined by the man himself.
Even with a lull between releases, Tricky proves to be true to his own inventive style. There is a warmth in his analog instrumentation and finely-tailored synths. Throughout False Idols, Tricky’s whispering voice accompanies profound performances by guest Brit vocalists Francesca Belmonte and Fifi Rong, as they wax poetic with emotional reflections on the coded behavior of intimate relationships.
Tricky’s False Idols album becomes available for purchase on May 28. Head on over to NPR for your first listen.
