Track Premiere: starRo's "Particle of Silent View" feat. Greg Grease

Premiering today on Okayfuture is a new track from Los Angeles-via-Tokyo producer starRo (Shinya Mizoguchi) titled “Particle of Silent View” featuring Minneapolis rapper Greg Grease, and appearing on starRo’s forthcoming Emotion EP, to be released February 10.

An artist on the Soulection roster, starRo’s new EP will be a self-released, 7-song artistic and cinematic depiction of his influences from post-rock, ambient, hip hop and jazz.  This is what Shinya had to say about his Emotion EP and “Particle of Silent View”:

“[“Particle of Silent View”] is the first track I made for this EP. I always saw it as the opening track. I wanted to make this EP like a European art house film starting silently from the scene of a snowy field with nothing else in sight. That’s how I came up with the title too. It was meant to be the instrumental track, but I kept hearing Greg’s deep voice and poetic lyrics intertwined in the beat so I hit him up and he got back with amazing work that made this track even more cinematic. This track has a lot of elements that influence the EP as a whole including my love for post-rock, ambient, hip hop and jazz.

I was originally making a full-length with 14-15 tracks, but I found these tracks in Emotion have a different vibe than the others so I decided to split them up and release these 7 tracks first.

Emotion might betray expectation of listeners who are familiar with my past works. In contrast to my typical sound, which is more soul R&B influenced music, I ventured to present my versatility as an artist. I wanted to pursue a more electronic accessible vibe that emphasizes the pieces as “songs” rather than just the “tracks.”

As the title suggests, this EP creates a portrait; a symphony of emotions and can take you back to moments of intimacy that never escaped your lips. Put on your headphones, close your eyes and enjoy your own imaginary film. I am also working on another project that focuses on Soul/R&B sound or danceable music so stay tuned.

Greg Grease, writing about his contribution to “Particle of Silent View,” says:

I was inspired from starRo’s track to write something that could have a multiple meaning, depending on who you are. “Everybody wants heaven, but nobody wanna die” could be seen as a commentary on modern day death culture, our expectations in life and willingness to work for reward.

Stream starRo and Greg Grease’s “Particle of Silent View” here and stay tuned for the upcoming release of the Emotion EP.
