Promnite Schoolboy Q Studio

Let me preface this by saying that PromNite is the secret alias of the homie.  I just lost a draft of this post I painstakingly edited to make sure I do not reveal any extra info about who he/she/they are, so this hastily rewritten post may accidentally reveal some secrets about their identity.

PromNite brings you a new remix/re-edit, this time of Schoolboy Q‘s “Studio.” Building upon the foundation of their previous hit (Denzel Curry PromNite Edition), they program refreshing drums in a post-trap landscape, employing rhythms that take equally from Chicago drill and Bay area/DJ Mustard aesthetics, fusing them at 115 BPM with several different snare sounds to turn up / turn down, using well-panned triplet hi-hat patterns which would leave Cashmere Cat feeling one-upped.

The track has the commercial sheen and DJ functionality of Hoodboi, but eschews the neo-soul harmony of Soulection, employing instead simple minor chords/arpeggios/runs with HudMo-like pitched up vocal chops.

This is a track you can play at any stage of your prom: from asking the girl by pretending like your thinking of her in the studio via Schoolboy Q, bumping it in the limo ride, playing it at the actual prom where you can both throw bows and slow dance to it, or loop it for the bedroom after.

With nods from Ta-ku, Team Supreme, Mad Decent, Hoodboi, Carmack, Djemba Djemba, the identity of PromNite is very difficult to ascertain due to the nature of Team Supreme-affiliated producers and their countless secret aliases. What I can reveal is that they are holding back on the production of this track to achieve a level of functionality and cleanliness: that he or she is capable of much more detailed and next level production, but is quite successful to the masses when holding it back. One clue may be the new picture posted on Soundcloud, perhaps of her new bae, some guy that looks like he took his hotel room to Sadie Hawkins.
