OBaH stands for Oldskool Beats and Harmonies, and that’s exactly what we get from this New York born and raised beat maker. Son of the legendary NYC DJ/Musician/Professor/Activist, Baba Chico, he is now carving out his own name for himself among the ever-changing club scene of the city. Fusing just what his name implies, dusty percussion and smooth, throwback melodies, with a modern sensibility that invigorates his tracks with a sense of immediacy, OBaH confers a contemporary feeling to a decidedly retro sound palette. Several talented musicians joined OBaH for the project including Borahm Lee (Break Science, Pretty Lights), Ethan White (Tortured Soul), B. Satz. (John Forte, Aloe Blacc), Amon (Analog Players Society), John Cave (Talib Kweli), Shayshahn “PhearNone” McPherson (Planet Ubiquity), and many others.
He will be dropping an EP on March 7th with Bagpak Solo Series, a three track journey–two originals and one remix–sure to satisfy even the most skeptical of ears. He premiered the first single off the EP, “New York is on some shhh”, and its accompanying video over on Vibe, and we’re set to give you the exclusive first look at the next single, “I Dream of Rio”.
Stream the exclusive premiere below, and be sure to check out OBaH spinning every Monday and Tuesday at The Top of The Standard (aka The Boom Boom Room). On March 13th, he joins Rich Medina’s monthly NYC party, Little Ricky’s Rib Shack, at Louie & Chan for his official EP release party. And don’t forget to follow him on facebook and twitter to keep up with the latest.
