DJ Koze is anything but average nor can his music be confined by any one genre. Instead he explores all moods and sounds to create a colorful atmosphere whether it be hip-hop, techno, house, trippy dialogue, or ambient weirdness. It has been 8 years since his last full-length album but with Amygdala out today on his imprint Pampa Records, we can say it most certainly has been worth the wait. Amygdala invites you into his phantasmagoria world with an array of cultural influences, which could stem from him living in a small fishing village in Spain. His album features Caribou, Apparat, Dirk von Lowtzow, Hildegard Knef, Ada, Milosh, and Matthew Dear. Stream the album in full below.
In his recent interview with The Fader, Koze explains the story behind “Track ID Anyone?,” the opening tune on Amygdala:
“It’s a funny joke! Do you know where it comes from, or not? If you see on Soundcloud mixes or on YouTube, every second guy makes comments asking, “Great song, track ID anyone?” “Great song at 20:30, track ID anyone?” It was just a funny idea to call it that—to call it something that everybody is asking for… You can’t Google it because it has 6 million hits. Even now, they don’t know if people asking for the “Track ID anyone” or if it’s just the name. It’s like meta—a meta-dimensional joke.”
