Lil Silva

Lil Silva finally unleashed his new Distance EP unto the universe this week, with four tracks — two vocal numbers and two instrumentals — that showcase his versatile production talents.

We already featured (and fell in love with) one of the two vocal tracks, the inspirational “No Doubt” that he leaked a few weeks ago. Now we’re extra geeked about his latest collaboration with one of our favorite vocalists, Sampha, on the song “Salient Sarah.”

While “No Doubt” followed a more pensive, self-reflective path, “Salient Sarah” takes Silva’s sound back to the dancefloor. He starts with a swinging 4×4 beat, then pulls back to give some space to Sampha, who builds his song into a pretty falsetto before giving the floor back to Silva’s powerful, heavy bassline. Together they take turns letting each other shine, a testament to Silva’s masterful composition and the wonderful interplay these two artists have when they come together on a track.

“Salient Sarah” is a perfect sequel to “On Your Own“, their collaboration on Lil Silva’s Patience EP from two years ago. I fell in love with their chemistry on that track, and they’ve left none of that behind on this new cut.

Don’t sleep on Distance‘s instrumental tracks either. Silva built his reputation on his grimey, UK Funky bangers, and he flexes some of those serious production muscles on both of these numbers. As an added treat, he bleeds a little bit of Sampha’s “Salient Sarah” vocals onto the end of “One Twenty.” It’s a nice subtle touch.

Lil Silva’s Distance EP is available now from Good Years via Beatport, iTunes, Boomkat and other digital outlets.

You can stream the whole EP here.
