Ryan Hemsworth UV Boi Gods

“It’s an iPhone, Q.”

“Of course it’s an iPhone, 007, but yours is equipped with a spectrasonic detonator good for up to 58 and a quarter yards; it’s our newest accomplishment.”

Ryan Hemsworth is pretty much the James Bond of electronic music as far as I’m concerned: bros wanna be him and the birds wanna be with him. Now, Hemmy’s a good-looking dude, don’t get me wrong, but by this I only mean that this young Canadian’s productions display both a technical mastery skillful enough to redline a tricked-out Aston around the foothills of Mont Blanc while also demonstrating an innate ability to melt hearts like a suave spy wearing a tailored tux with his cooly urbane melodicism. A lot of producers have the chops to show off but not all of them can get the girls dancing and he’s done well in transforming an inherently masculine genre into something nearly approaching very sexy.

With “Gods,” Hemsworth picks up Brisbane’s wee UV Boi for some royal reconnaissance and rips it up to a regal fanfare of trumpet arpeggios, deploying his deadly iPhone’s universally known tri-tone when necessary, ducking for cover under ricocheting roto-toms and climactic crashes. The track strategically dips into secretive, suspenseful pockets just long enough to reload and open fire again, and the two roll out a little roughed-up but in fine style just in time for the end credits.
