Interview: Naked Geometry + "The Missing 43" EP (Free Download)

Naked Geometry (Romeo C.) develops music that scares me. There is an atmosphere created within his tunes that slowly lingers throughout, blends nature with rhythm and haunts in so many ways. For me, the closest comparison to his sound is part-Nicolas Jaar, part-minimalist, part-sampling ingenuity. Based out of Mexico City, Mexico, Naked Geometry is an up-and-coming artist with a very bright future ahead of him.

From every dark moment can come inspiration, and that’s exactly what Naked Geometry did. His latest EP entitled The Missing 43 is based on a tragedy in Mexico involving the 43 missing students in Ayotzinapa.

You can download The Missing 43 EP for free here. I was lucky enough ask him some questions about his music, sound, and the state of music in Mexico.*  Read our exclusive interview with Naked Geometry here and listen to his remix of Esta’s “Luna,” as well as a new tune from him below.

*It should be noted that Naked Geometry is not fluent in English so he gave me permission to edit accordingly.

How would you describe your music?

I describe it as a mild mood. Often, the genre that a producer produces is in relation to their attitude and personality. For me, there is a strong emphasis on rhythms, atmospheres, and very specific voices that have given me a particular sound with this combination.

Who are your top influences? What is the music you’re into right now?

I am very influenced by artists from various record labels such as Cosmonostro, Soulection, Future Classic, Ninja Tune, Warp, to name a few. I have several friends in Mexico City who I support and follow: Me & Myself is one of my best friends and he produces some cool spacey electronic music. No Light is another good friend of mine with a very “future” vibe.

Can you tell me more about your EP, The Missing 43?

I made a pitch for the 43 missing students “Ayotzinapa” in Mexico, a case that has caused a stir in my country. I decided to face this situation, not so that we remember each of them with sadness, but courage to defend ourselves as citizens of this country [Mexico]. The EP is available for free download on NWAbout Records.

How would you describe the music scene in Mexico and where do you think it’s heading?

The electronic music scene in Mexico grows more and more every day thanks to the support of new independent platforms. There are more and more innovative and creative musicians and music, expanding in all styles. It is increasingly leading to a wider market, satisfying the taste of anyone. Currently, Mexico is positioning itself internationally in different genres with an increasing number of high-quality producers.

On a less serious note, what are the top three things you can’t live without?

  1. Music
  2. Technology
  3. Sex
  4. Candies… (I’m sorry i cant exclude em’)

We hope to see Naked Geometry on tour in the US soon. Peep his latest tune “Slowly Diamonds” on Soundcloud below.
