Featured in the newest episode of Smirnoff Sound Collective‘s video series There & Now are London electronic music artists Jack Beats (comprised of DJ Plus One and Beni G), who have parlayed their late 90’s championship turntablist careers into their modern-day role as massively in-demand electronic dance music artists.
The super-duo, signed to Skrillex‘s OWSLA label, recall their early days of practicing the technical side of DJing for hours and days on end, alluding to Plus One and Beni G’s past lives as members of the acclaimed Scratch Perverts and The Mixologists, respectively. (Check out Plus One winning the DMC World Championships in 2001.) Nothing’s changed for these two talents – they’re still winning.
Hip hop cred and turntablism titles in their back pockets, Jack Beats have since become the lauded makers of an unmistakably UK jackin’ house and squelching, bass-driven sound. In the video, they refer to this forward-thinking concept of “hybrid music” that has placed them on the largest electronic music festival stages globally, and their gift for remixing sought after by Beyoncé, Diplo, La Roux, Danny Brown, Big Boi, A-Trak and many others.
With several successful OWSLA releases (such as their Careless EP out last month) and countless dripping heart-tattooed fans worldwide, Jack Beats have achieved the illustrious feat of being music legends of the past, present and future.
Watch Jack Beats make the rounds in downtown L.A. in the new There & Now episode below (with cameos from their friends at We Are Massiv., AC Slater, LA Riots, 12th Planet, Toby the French bulldog and label-boss Skrillex).
