8/20 – St. Paul, Minnesota
4:19am
We hung around the bus most of the day, because it had everything we needed in the middle of no-where St. Paul, aircon and wifi. Rowan and I hit the hot tub, the pool and the sauna. It was much needed after sleeping on the stiff bus bunks. Later that evening Feed Me, Delta Heavy, TJANI and myself closed down a local bar. The bar staff ended the night by giving us beer shots, weird craft beer shots.

Touring on a bus can be both exciting and disjointing. For the most part, you wake up in a new place every morning. Today, I’m in a stuffy garage. The show tonight is at the legendary First Avenue. Most of Purple Rain was filmed here.

7:29pm
While waiting for the show to start, I spent most of my time outside with the crew. Tour is a lot of “hurry up and wait.”  And not always in the most glamorous of places. The local crew fashioned a nice “Employee Lounge” just outside the venue in the garage. Rowan, part three Teeth 2.0, and I discuss the “real rave days.”  In his former life, Rowan threw some the first original, illegal raves in England.

“We’d source a venue on Tuesday and by Wednesday you would break in, sort the electricity, then lock it up again. Thursdays were when we made the flyers. We’d have kids pass them out until Saturday. On the flyer was a number, 9597525. Debbie was in charge of leaving the voicemail. Kids would call to find out where the party was. And everyone brought their rave kit out with them for the weekend. Back then it consisted of coins for the train, coins for the phone and a map. Kids made their own clothes. We charged a three-pound ‘donation’ at the door. We’d party thru Sunday evening. Sleep Monday. And do it all over again Tuesday.” -Rowan

8/21 – Milwaukee, Wisconsin
11:54am
My mornings usually consist of Googling the nearest coffee and the nearest food. Today it’s pouring. Starbucks is 10 minutes away. There’s no umbrella on the bus and I didn’t bring wellies. Our bus driver is cleaning. You don’t see much of the bus driver usually because he’s off asleep, resting in order to safely carry us to the next city. The venue is called The Rave. No, really. It was a former members-only YMCA type place. It’s across the street from The Ambassador Hotel, where Dahmer killed his first victim.

12:11pm
The greenrooms are five massive rooms, all covered in fabric. It looks as if we are inside of Austin Power’s genie bottle. Feed Me’s Psychedelic Journey has self-actualized into fruition.

10:56pm
Delta Heavy and TJANI surprise Feed Me on stage with a cake for his 30th birthday. The sold-out crowd serenades a shocked and elated Feed Me to the tune of “Happy Birthday.”

8/22– Milwaukee International Airport
I managed to lose only my phone charger, my favorite pair of shorts and 2 toothbrushes. I did, however, walk away with seven new best friends. Being shoved in a tight space with strangers from around the world takes a lot of organization and cooperation. Traveling on the bus is about being a team. Traveling on the bus is about being a family. It means no man left behind. No man goes hungry and no man goes without a beer.
