Best Weeknd Remixes

To help you get your fix before Kiss Land arrives later this year, we’ve rounded up a collection of The Weeknd remixes to help soothe that unique yearning for the dark sparkle only Abel Tesfaye can dish out. These cuts date from Balloons, 2 years back to interpolations dropped just this week of side-project features. This cross-section is light on the.. uh, ‘chainsaw and leaf blower’ method, ranging from dreamy to necksnappers, Trapish to Moombahsoul. We got you covered like a glitter-encrusted Snuggie©.

Bay Area producer/dj Cutso of the Bangerz crew brought Abel’s slow-motion guest feature with SuaVay on “Twenty Eight” up to speed and added a punishing bass attack that made our jaw drop. [Free Download]

Chicago producer Dolor recently signed to UK label Technicolor and dropped his first EP, Misteria just last month. Evidently he’s aloof and avoids interviews. That’s ok with us. All we need are remixes like his villainous take on “The Morning” [download]

Coleco is a ‘they’ and not a ‘he’. They are from Toronto. We first found them via a few awesome Nu Disco upbeat versions of Brandy and Aaliyah tracks off their EP titled “El Verano“. Their uptempo take  of”Wicked Games” drops in after the first dozen bars or so, making it straight danceable. Definitely worth the wait. Snapping fingers ensue. [Free Download]

Sy.ic is a duo from Berlin. The have a slew of remixes of folks we love like Disclosure, Flako and Jamie Woon. They are experimental and carefree about being genre-vague. It’s worth a jump down the rabbit hole to check their catalogue for sounds. The drum programming they add on “Wicked Games” make for a meditative and driving experience at the same time.

Sango, from Southern California Soulection crew went all-in on a full remix tribute to Balloons entitled “More Balloons”. There is plenty to like in the 9 song project. We picked his double drums, chops and delays out on “The Morning” but by all means, check the whole thing. If you like one, we bet you’ll like them all.
